The launch of the Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) by ICPAK on Thursday, 19th March 2026 marked a significant milestone for the accounting profession in Kenya.
As a Council Member and the Practitioners Development Committee (PDC) Convener, I was honored to play a central role in this important initiative, alongside fellow Council and Committee members. The event also served as a sensitization forum, bringing together key institutions including National Treasury, FRC, EACC, OAG, RBA, IRA, KNCCI, HELB, CA, CAK BRS, NCA, ICIFA, CMA, KRA, NSE, PSASB, University of Nairobi, FSD, SASRA, Several SACCOs among others.
UDIN is a secure, unique identification system assigned to all audit opinions on financial statements by licensed auditors, enabling easy verification of authenticity and origin. It is an important step toward curbing fraud, enhancing accountability, and strengthening public trust in financial statements, while safeguarding the integrity of the accounting profession.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all participants and partners who attended and contributed to the success of this launch. While this marks an important beginning, our work continues. We will carry on with public sensitization efforts to deepen understanding of UDIN, its benefits, and its role in promoting transparency and credibility across sectors.
